Heirloom Portrait Experience

KLP's Heriloom Vignette-5.jpg

Heirloom portraits are more than just pictures — they are keepsakes, meant to be proudly displayed and passed down through generations. They’re a way to preserve this sweet stage of childhood with artful simplicity and enduring charm.

All of my heirloom sessions take place in a beautiful, natural light studio near downtown Dothan, Alabama. These timeless portraits are photographed against a classic white backdrop, keeping the focus on what matters most — your child’s sweet personality and expressive little features.

During our session, I’ll guide your child through gentle posing and prompts to capture both the traditional heirloom portrait as well as a range of candid expressions. After the session, you’ll receive a mixed gallery of stardard portraits and candids to choose from. In addition you will receive 1 image edited  in my signature heirloom vignette style.

Once your gallery is fully edited and delivered, and you've fallen in love with your child’s portraits, we can discuss custom printing and framing options. I believe so deeply in the power of print — that these timeless portraits should not only live on a screen but be proudly displayed in your home and passed down through generations.

Things You're Wondering About

What Age Should I Schedule Heirloom Portraits?

Heirloom portraits can be done at any age, but they are most commonly photographed between:

6 months to 4 years old

This is the ideal window because your little one is often sitting unassisted, showing their personality, and still has those sweet baby features we all want to preserve.

Please note: Your child MUST be sitting up unassisted to book this session

Here’s a quick age guide:

  • 6–12 months – Perfect for capturing those soft baby cheeks, big eyes, and curious expressions.

  • 1–2 years – Great for those early smiles, little teeth, and a touch of toddler sass.

  • 3–4 years – A wonderful age to document big personalities, classic expressions, and sweet features before they change again.

Heirloom portraits are timeless, so whether it’s a first session or a tradition passed down through generations, it’s never too early (or too late) to start.

And remember — siblings are always welcome! I offer a %50 discount for any additional siblings joining!

What to Wear for Heirloom Portraits

THINK: Timeless. Classic. Sentimental.

Choosing the right outfit is one of the most important parts of an heirloom portrait session. These images are meant to be cherished for generations, so we keep the style simple, elegant, and traditional to let your little one shine.

Here’s what I recommend:

  • Classic children’s clothing — Think smocked dresses, Peter Pan collars, bubbles, and button-ups in soft, neutral colors.

  • Light tones — White, ivory, cream, soft pastels, or light gray photograph best against the clean white backdrop.

  • Timeless accessories — Simple bows, lace socks, or heirloom shoes add a sweet, classic touch.

  • No bold patterns or logos — These can distract from your child’s natural charm and the timeless feel of the portrait.

✨ Don’t have the perfect outfit? No worries! You’ll have access to my curated heirloom client closet at no extra cost. Each piece has been hand-selected to complement my soft, classic editing style and fit a variety of sizes and ages.
